Home for the Holidays

Christmas time is one of my favorite times of year. For me, it is anchored to family and great food. As I got ready to head home for the holidays this year I was reminded of how many people I don't keep in contact with that I went to high school with. I contacted two of my girlfriend from high school that I haven't seen in ten years. We had breakfast together this morning and it was such a trip down memory lane. They are both married and have kids and it is a totally different lifestyle than mine right now. They are both beautiful mothers with fantastic husbands. It was amazing to catch up and see how well they are doing. We talked about a lot of people that we know mutually that are not doing so well. We just had a close high school friend pass away and at the funeral they reunited with a lot of people. People that haven't changed a bit since high school, or people who are addicted to one unhealthy thing or another. It got me thinking about the people that I choose to surround myself with and who I have chosen to keep in contact with. I believe that the people who we are in constant contact with are a direct reflection of who we are. There is a saying that says we are the average of the 5 people that we surround our selves with the most. I want people who will bring my average up.
As I sit in the kitchen of the house that I grew up in, I have my mom, sister, grandpa, and dad here with me. I am thankful for the time that I get to have with my family. It is rare that we are all together and even if we are all doing different things, I can still feel the connection. Family and friends fill my buckets to the max and I am trying to get it as full as possible overflowing if possible while I am home for this short time.
